Welfare Activities

The Muslim welfare Association which was formed in the year 1987 looks after communal harmony among the Muslims and other communities. The Association by its resolutions passed at various centers brought to the notice of the Government, both state and central the pitiable conditions of Muslims in India and the need for reservation in educational institutions and Government service including police defense and quasi Government Service. It has also been arranging the burials of the poor and unclaimed Janazas (Dafanul Mayyith) of the area.

To quote an instance, an old man in Islamic look met with an accident at Tirunelveli Junction, admitted at the Government Hospital for treatment where he passed away. The Hospital authorities informed the matter to us we took a photo of the deceased old man and published in the local dailies. None came forward to receive the Body. Therefore we arranged the burial. Some days later some persons from Pottalpudur came and informed us that the deceased was their father. Haji. Muhammad Meeran and he had met with the accident, when he was proceeding to Pollachi to his daughter's house. They were not aware of the accident and death. The Sons of the deceased thanked our orphanage for having arranged the burial of the Mayyit in Islamic way and donated Rs.10000/- to the orphanage and continue the donation.

The association also helped to restore peace when there was communal disharmony at Melepalayam, Kayalpamam, and Thengapatnam. This was appreciated by one and all. The District administration was kind enough tohonour our president Alhaj. M. Jamal Muhammad Sahib by issuing certificate of Appreciation during Independence day celebration on 15.8.94 and Republic days in the years 1995 and 1999.
